    Mathurin Moreau 1822-1912,
    Mathurin Moreau was born in Dijon in 1822, and later moved to Paris where he was trained in sculpture in the academic salon style. In 1848 Moreau first exhibited at the Paris Salon where he later went on to win several medals. Moreau was asked to create many public commissions including the façade of the Gare du Nord in 1865 and a large bronze for the courtyard of the Musee des Arts in Paris. In recognition of the high esteem in which he was held, Moreau was asked to become Mayor of the 19th arrondissement in Paris, and upon his death in 1912 a street in Paris was named in his honor.
