    Born in Saby in Sweden in 1843, Knut Ekwall trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. He moved to Berlin where he started working as an Engraver producing illustrations for publications. In Berlin he came under the influence of Ludwig Knaus one of Germany’s most successful and best-known painters who encouraged Ekwall’s obvious talents. Subsequently Ekwall was a regular exhibiter in Berlin and best known for Interior Scenes and Portraits.

    In this signed Oil Ekwall conveys the character and personality of the sitters with perfection, it is an affectionate rendering of such a charming scene.
